You likely have 'acne rosacea' or just very sensitive skin with a compromised barrier. You need to avoid the classic acne fighters (BP, high % SA, retinoids). Instead, look for anti-inflammatory ingredients. Azelaic acid is your best friend. It kills acne bacteria AND reduces redness. It is gentle enough for rosacea. Also, sulfur is an old-school treatment that is very gentle – sulfur masks or washes can dry out pimples without burning. Finally, niacinamide (vitamin B3) reduces oil and strengthens the skin barrier. Do NOT use foaming cleansers. Use a milk or cream cleanser. And always, always moisturize before applying any active ingredient. This is called 'buffering' and it reduces irritation. See a derm to rule out actual rosacea, because the treatment is different (metronidazole cream).
